The City of Kamloops is the official host of the Western Canada Summer Games in August of 2011. The Western Canada Summer Games is dedicated to the development of excellence in sport by the 4 western provinces and three territories (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territory). These Games are Western Canada ’s largest multi-sport competition, and are an integral part of the Long Term Athlete Development Model. The Western Canada Summer Games were first held in 1975 in Regina, Saskatchewan with the 4 western provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) competing. In 1983, Yukon and the Northwest Territories joined, and 2003 saw the addition of Nunavet. The 2011 Games will be held in Kamloops, British Columbia where athletes range in age from 13 to 23. The identification of potential Western Canada Games athletes begins in April 2010 with the AABC Talent ID Camps. The Alberta Amateur Baseball Council will be hosting a training event, for athletes aged 13 & 14 years. The date and location of this training camp has yet to be determined. |
